The Great San Francisco Blackout of December 2025 continues into its third day for some residents, and Muni subway service remains disrupted due to ongoing impacts from the PG&E outage. As of Monday morning, December 22, the power outage that began on December 20 has persisted for around 11,600 PG&E customers in San Francisco, primarily concentrated in the Outer Richmond and around the Civic Center area. PG&E has pledged full restoration of power to these areas by 2 pm Monday.
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco's "Golden Girl" Pat Montandon has died at 96 years old. She was known for her legendary parties in the 1960s with guests like the Gettys, Andy Warhol and Frank Sinatra. Following an ugly divorce, Montandon became a philanthropist, founding a peace group called Children as Teachers for Peace and making 37 international trips on its behalf.

As the Chronicle reports, the San Francisco Police Department received a report at 12:16 pm Saturday of gunshots and threats of violence by someone who locked themselves inside San Francisco's Palace Hotel. This Christmas and Hanukkah season, SF's December nights are once again razzle-dazzled up by the sixth year of the rebooted annual San Francisco Fire Station Community Holiday Decorations Competition. The contest is an old SF tradition from the late 1940s and early 1950s that returned in 2020 during the COVID doldrums, and this year the fire stations are competing for $4,000 in prize money for the winning stations' charities of choice.

The latest fare hike is detailed in a federally required analysis of the equity impact on minority and low-income riders. The 106-page report, which includes dozens of pages of largely critical comments from people surveyed about the proposed increase earlier this year, concludes that higher fares will have no disparate impact on BART's substantial number of customers who are people of color or who have lower incomes.
