Good teams win the games they should win - and the Chargers are out to prove they're a good team. They travel to Tennessee on Sunday to face rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick, who has shown flashes of promise but isn't yet where he wants to be in his career. The Chargers are riding high after an Oct. 23 win over Minnesota that marked the return of outstanding left tackle Joe Alt.
The Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday in the midst of his second season with the team, logging a 4-19 record over his time in Tennessee. Senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy was named Callahan's replacement as the interim head coach. He'll be tabbed with trying to turn around the last-place Titans, who'll take on a Patriots team that's 4-2 and unexpectedly in first place in the AFC East entering Week 7.
Kingsbury was a hot name on last year's head coaching cycle after galvanizing his career with the Commanders. The New Orleans Saints' job was reportedly his if he wanted it, but the play-caller opted to stay in Washington, citing his love for the job, working with Jayden Daniels, and learning so much from Dan Quinn as driving forces behind his decision.
The Titans placed Sweat on the reserve/injured list on Saturday. Sweat suffered an ankle injury in Tennessee's season opening loss to the Denver Broncos. The 6-foot-4, 366-pound lineman was not available for last week's game against the Los Angeles Rams. Sweat worked a side field during practice on Wednesday and was seen doing light jogging before taking part in individual period on Thursday. The Titans ruled Sweat out for Week 3 after he missed practice on Friday.
Adding White gives Tennessee another veteran who will eventually compete with second-year players Cedric Gray and James Williams for a starting spot. White, who played his first four seasons for the Los Angeles Chargers, set career highs last season with 2.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, nine tackles for loss, an interception, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery, the first of his career. He had 137 tackles last season. For his seven-year career, he has 615 tackles, 7.5 sacks and six interceptions.
In his first year with the Tennessee Titans, running back Tony Pollard reached career highs -- 1,079 rushing yards and 260 carries. However, his workload significantly overshadowed teammate Tyjae Spears, who had only 84 carries, creating an imbalanced distribution of carries that the Titans coach hopes to rectify in Year 2.
