Pause AI, founded in Utrecht, Netherlands in May 2023 by Joep Meindertsma, aims to halt what it calls 'dangerous frontier AI' and staged its first protest outside Microsoft's lobbying office in Brussels.
mildly interesting observation: i always use capital letters when writing by hand, but usually only type them when doing something that somehow reminds me of being in school.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is now maybe taking a page out of Elon Musk's and Trump's playbook, and posting a cheeky AI-generated photo of himself as a sexy calendar firefighter to Xitter. In what's apparently intended to show off the capabilities of Images 1.5, the new image-creation module in ChatGPT, OpenAI's Sam Altman posted the example below. On the " Lightcone Podcast," Skates acknowledged that some engineers were skeptical of their company leaders' rapid adoption of AI.
"Sam had just helped us raise a round of funding," Ohanian said on the podcast, recounting details of Reddit's $50 million Series B investment round it announced in 2014. In 2015, Altman cofounded OpenAI as a nonprofit. Between 2015 and 2016, Ohanian said, Altman had begun asking "to basically aggressively scrape Reddit." A debate ensued between Ohanian and Reddit cofounder Steve Huffman (who still serves as the now-public company's CEO). "Sam is a very smart guy, incredibly cunning," Ohanian said.
