Much of Instagram's video content is organized around transformation-the virtual magic of the before-and-after and clips that show cause and effect. A person makes pasta from scratch in 20 seconds via edits that compress time-intensive labor.

After a long period of small updates and targeted changes, it seems that in 2026 Instagram is planning a broader move. Not a revolution that will change the app overnight, but a series of features that accumulate into a clear directional shift - more tools for creators, more emphasis on paid subscriptions, and more control over content even after it is live.
