Earlier in 2025, Square Enix executives shared their desire to "reboot" the company over the next three years. However, not every game will make it out to the other side of that time frame. Two mobile games from Square Enix's top franchises are set to be shut down in Japan at the end of October. The impending ends of Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars were confirmed in Square Enix's social media posts (via GamesIndustry.Biz).

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is on sale for only $30 for Nintendo Switch and PS5 at Amazon this week. Though not technically part of Amazon's Labor Day Sale, the retailer is matching deals offered in competitor promotions, and the fully rebuilt remake of this Square Enix classic is one of them. Nintendo Switch 2 owners can buy the Switch physical edition for $30 and purchase the official upgrade from the eShop for $10. The Switch 2 edition is $50 on the eShop, so you're still saving 10 bucks overall with the physical edition.

Square Enix is preparing a remake of Dragon Quest VII, which originally launched on PlayStation in 2000 in Japan and 2001 in the US, set for 2026.

Final Fantasy XVI has been released on Xbox, offering players kaiju battles, great voice acting, and two story DLCs, expanding its appeal beyond PlayStation.
